A multi-society Interventional Pulmonology (IP) fellowship accreditation standard has been developed with input and approval of the American Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (AABIP), Association of Interventional Pulmonology Program Directors (AIPPD), American Thoracic Society (ATS), American College of Chest Physicians/CHEST (ACCP), and the Association of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Program Directors (APCCMPD). The full accreditation standard can be reviewed at https://www.aippd.org/resources/accred-doc/. Alternatively, a summary of the accreditation standard is available at https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28132754.

An online accreditation application is now available at the attached link below. Clicking on this link or loading the link from you browser will bring you to a consent form. The consent grants or withholds permission to use information available in your application for study and quality assurance purposes. Granting or withholding consent to use this information will have no bearing on the processing or final accreditation of your fellowship program however granting consent will better allow the AABIP and AIPPD to understand the landscape of IP fellowship training in the United States and where to best direct resources. At the bottom of the consent form is a text box into which an email must be entered. The email you enter will be the address to which all portions of the accreditation application will be sent for completion. This email may be that of the program director, program coordinator, or other trusted representative of the fellowship program.

The accreditation application is divided into twenty separate surveys based on the structure of the accreditation standard. After the consent form is completed the first survey will be sent to the designated email address. The majority of surveys include required entries that must be completed before the survey can be submitted, however other surveys do not have required entries and can be submitted blank if the survey does not pertain to your fellowship program. Once all required entries are made on a survey and it is submitted an email will be sent with a link to the next subsequent survey. All surveys can be saved and completed at a later time or date once started however once submitted no further changes to that specific survey will be possible. If you wish to make changes to a completed survey please contact the application coordinator at mullon.john@mayo.edu .

Once all surveys of the application are complete and submitted your program will be granted provisional accreditation while your application is reviewed as long as your complete application is submitted not later than June 30, 2018. Provisional accreditation will allow your fellowship graduates to remain IP board-eligible while your application is under review. Provisional accreditation will remain in effect until June 30, 2019 after which official accreditation based on the review of your application will take effect.
